First Official Race of the 2005 Championship - Laguna Seca Raceway April 29-May 1
Laguna Seca Raceway located in California marked the official debut of Burseth Racing, LLC Formula BMW USA effort with Derek Burseth in car "98" in the opening 2 races of the 2005 Championship. One of North America's classic road course, Laguna Seca's serpentine 2.238 miles will provide quite a stage for the opening act of the 14 race series. Under blue skies near beautiful Monterey, CA and alongside Grand AM/Rolex - Formula BMW USA started the opening rounds of 2005. This is Derek Burseth 2nd year in Formula BMW USA. "It is great to start the first race of the series at the same track we finished the 2004 Championship. Formula BMW USA is an excellent series. This year looks to be very competitive year. Formula BMW USA provides excellent support to all the teams. It is also exciting to have the BMW World Final between the Four BMW Series (German, UK, US, and Asia) in Bahrain in December 2004." said Derek Burseth from Bartlett, IL
Derek kept getting better and better with every session and very lap. In the 1st race Derek started 17th on the grid and drove a steady race and finished 17th. Race 2 was marked by 2 full course yellows. Derek had an excellent start moving ahead of several competitors. "Having drag race, I am excited to do the Formula 1 start" comments Derek Burseth. With 2 full course yellows during the race and starting 16th on the grid. Derek was able to have no damage to his car bring his "98" Formula BMW car home in an incredible 13th place. "Derek did a great job and I see his results just getting better." stated team manager Cheryl Burseth. "Derek has determination and focus and drove 2 smooth races this weekend. I am proud of the team and also want to thank Dawn Ringer for getting our trailer from Carolina Motorsports to Laguna Seca and back to Ohio. I am confidently looking toward to Mid-Ohio.
