U.S. Formula One at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indianapolis, IN June 17-18, 2005

Being in the garages at Indianapolis with your name over the top and racing at the Brickyard as a support series for the Formula One is a great experience.  "Whatever the outcome, racing at the Brickyard will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life!"  states Derek Burseth  of Bartlett, IL.  Formula BMW USA rounds 7 and 8 will be at one of the most famous race tracks in the world - Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  As the only series to race in support of both North American Grands Prix, Burseth Racing and our driver Derek Burseth have had a great racing experience.

Just like the week before there was limited time on the track with a 20 minute practice on Friday ad one qualifying session.  Saturday race started with 2 cars never even making it to corner one.  Derek and the "98 car  missed all the spins and smashes but during the second lap of the yellow flag he noticed that his oil pressure had dropped. He pulled off at turn 8 for the rest of the race.  Derek wasn't able to finish the 1st race due to engine failure but the crew worked late into the night to install a new engine for Derek. The crew did an excellent job of having the "98" car ready for the next day.

On Sunday starting at 23 position Burseth was able to finish in 18th place.  Derek had a good start and keep getting faster and setting a best time.  Derek stated after the race, "With the new engine my car worked better than it had all season.  I started to feel a difference with the power at the Mid-Ohio race.  I am excited about working with the car and my team at the test days at Putman in July.  I feel with the new engine and the upcoming tests that I can look forward to improving my qualifying times and finishes  at the future races.  One of Derek Burseth sponsors Graf Systems was able to be at Indianapolis for the race weekend.

Some other highlights of the weekend.  Derek on Saturday night met with over 300 Indianapolis Cub Scouts and their Dads who were camping out for the weekend at the track for the Father's Day weekend.  Burseth who was also a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout enjoyed talking to the scout's about racing.  Having won the Pine Car Derby as a scout and helping his brother win the Pine car Derby this year - Derek shared the secret of winning the Pine Car Derby with the scouts.  Derek also waved to the scouts on a warm up lap.  Team manager Cheryl Burseth also had a highlight from the weekend.  She came back after the Formula One race from pit lane with a PUMA Motorsport Ferrari Team shirt signed by both Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.
