Derek Burseth  meets with Mark Webber at Formula 1 Race at Indy

Meeting with BMW Williams F1 Team driver mark Webber was a special moment for Derek Burseth a highly motivated up and coming  driver.  Webber answered many of Derek's questions and also gave insight on how to reach his goals.

While at Indy, Derek also had a tour of the BMW Williams F1 Team paddock area and garage.  Not only was there the chance to meet team personnel and executives, but also to learn more about engine chassis, and everything else that can only be seen when "behind the scenes".  BMW Williams F1 Team experts explained the development of the BMW engine, data analyses, aerodynamics, braking, and the intricacies of the Formula 1 steering wheel.

Being a Formula BMW USA driver, Derek was impressed that there were a number of safety features used in Formula 1 which are the same or similar in the Formula BMW FB2 such as the head and neck supporting system, the BMW Formula Rescue Seat, wheel tethers, a deformable nose and a rear crashbox structure.

Derek was also to meet with Pierre Dupasquiere from Michelin.  He was to busy.  Derek knew why when the next day the Formula 1 cars using Michelin tires decided to not race.

The foundation of Formula BMW is education.  BMW believes that access to the top people in all motorsport disciplines early in one' career will make for the best possible start.  Formula BMW education covers all essential disciplines of professional motor racing from physical fitness, optimal car set-up, ongoing collaboration with the media, manufacturers and sponsors, to driving technique and tactics.
